Unknown Neighbours was the title of a Simcoe County KAIROS interactive gathering October 20-21, 2017 held at St.Mary's Catholic Church in Barrie. The gathering consisted of presentations and workshops focused on migrant workers in Simcoe County and was attended by 40 people. The idea was to shed light on the presence of migrant workers living and working in Simcoe County and to engage residents in exercises to help them understand how migrant workers are treated and respected in their work environments. Unknown Neighbours is a not-for-profit organization that provides resources and assistance to temporary foreign workers in Simcoe County and neighbouring Dufferin and Grey-Bruce Counties. Through outreach and worker referrals, Unknown Neighbours connects with workers to address their needs through donations and collaboration with fellow organizations in the region. Unknown Neighbours serves as a bridge connecting temporary foreign workers to the communities where they live and work while making communities aware of the important contribution made by temporary foreign workers to local food production and a healthy economy.
